DemandTools - MassChange Module
MassChange is a highly flexible tool that permits you to select specific objects from your salesforce.com database and then make changes to specific fields on the found objects. In basic terms it lets you tell salesforce the objects you want to find and what to change them to.
With the MassChange tool you can:
Move Tasks from one user to another given the date range of the Tasks.
Rollover your Opportunities by moving the close date for all open Opportunities to the end of the current month.
Reassign Accounts, Contacts, Leads and Opportunities based on multiple complex criteria.
Update select and multiselect field values from an older value to a new value.
Shown below is the MassChange tool for salesforce.com.

| The first step is to select the salesforce.com object (i.e. Accounts, Contacts, Opportunities) that you want to work on. Simply select the object from the "Select Object To Change" pull down and the fields of that object will appear in the listbox below the object name. |
| Once you have selected the object to work on you must now select between 1 to 4 fields for display. The MassChange tool will not update any objects unless you tell it to by confirming the change in the next step of the tool. On this step the found matches will be displayed to you by using the field names selected in this step. Therefore, it is important to select unique fields in this stage that you will be able to use to identify the object that is being changed. |
Your next step is to determine the conditions that will be used to find the objects. You should be careful in this step as you could specify conditions that may find thousands of objects. In the example below, the conditions will find all opportunities that are NOT closed with a close date before Sept 1, 2004.

After you have determined your conditions you can then set the Values that will be applied to the found objects. You simply select the field you want to change and the select the new value from the right. In the example below, All found Opportunities will have their close date moved to Sept 30, 2004

If you are satisfied with your selection simply select the Find Matches button and the application will search your salesforce.com database for matching objects. Once the objects are found you will be presented with the following screen.

You can now select the object you want to change by checking the box beside the description and then selecting the process button. This action can take an extended period of time if you are updating hundreds of objects.
